Doug Leatham has carved many wonderful items from antlers, stone and wood as well as resin combined with antlers and received 1st place awards twice in the category of “Sculpture, Wood and Fiber”.

Lithic Stone Knives: Flint knapping is one of the earliest industrial arts of man, a process of man’s ability to induce and control the fracture of stone to form functional implements. Doug has been creating art including flint knapping for over 30 years. He has shared his creations at many art shows in the western United States.

Moose antler-resin sculptured picture: Doug has carved using moose antler for many years and had a large stock of small pieces. In being creative he came up with the idea of using moose antler pieces to make pictures that was more like fine art that could be hung on a wall of set on a stand like other artists pictures.

Moose antler and resin are put together in a form. It is allowed to cure. It is then sanded off to a smooth surface with a hand held belt sander. After deciding what the subject will be for the picture it is drawn on the surface. Then the carving tools are used to create the sculpture desired. Watercolor is used to bring out the realistic look of life.
