Capturing the magic of the Lake Almanor area in watercolor is one of artist Deb Groesser’s favorite things to do. She moved to Lake Almanor in 1989 and began showing and selling her artwork. Three years later, Deb opened Northwoods Gallery on the Peninsula, and in 1994 moved the art and framing business into Chester. After many years of operating the Gallery, Deb decided to spend more time pursuing her artwork and teaching art classes. In August of 2004, the Gallery was sold, and it continues as a favorite landmark destination for art aficionados from all over.
In addition to painting, Deb now operates the “Art Studio,” a wonderful retreat where students learn from professional artists who come from around the country. Workshops of all kinds are held and it is a special place of positive energy. The Studio fulfills a deep passion for Debbie…..that of teaching, of giving back and of sharing the excitement of painting with others.
Her formal art training began in the early 70’s. After working in several mediums, she focused on watercolor as her favorite. Deb loves the excitement, challenge and transparency of watercolor. Her specialty is landscape …… translating the feeling of a moment in time when the beauty of nature touches your soul and you stop and say “wow.” Her work has been purchased and taken to points all over the globe, including China, Australia, Germany, Denmark, Canada, and beyond.
Deb grew up in the San Fernando Valley of Southern California. After a 20-year stint in Nebraska raising a family, she moved back to California and fell in love with the Lake Almanor area. In addition to painting and teaching, she loves to golf, travel, read, spend time with friends and enjoy the sunshine in the great outdoors. Special times are spent with her daughter, Julie, son-in-law, Bill, and grandsons Jacob and Justin, who live in Virginia.
