Here is the Lake Almanor Art Studio 2006 Workshop Schedule! This year we have for you a great line-up of instructors from around the country...to teach, inspire, entertain....and provide you with a wonderful art experience in the incomparable setting of beautiful Lake Almanor. We invite you to come have the time of your life!
Workshops will be held at the "ART STUDIO", across from Northwoods Art Gallery, in downtown Chester, CA. Mark your calendar and sign up as early as possible to ensure your spot in class, as all class sizes are limited. If you are joining us from out-of-town, we will be happy to provide you with information about special lodging rates for our art students. When you register, just ask for lodging information. If you have never been to this area, you are in for a very special treat. With pristine Lake Almanor for boating, watersports, fishing, swimming and the surrounding forest and mountains for hiking, camping, exploring and viewing wildlife, you will not find a more beautiful spot to enjoy. The area offers a championship golf course, as well as two beautiful 9-hole courses. For bicycle enthusiasts, there is a picturesque 9-mile paved path along the west shore of the lake. Lassen Volcanic National Park is nearby with scenic drives and hikes featuring an active volcano, lakes and bubbling lava pools. The Lake Almanor Basin is known as "California's best kept secret" and for good reason. Come enjoy yourself and learn something new at the same time!

August 12 & 13 (Saturday and Sunday) Time: 9-4 Cost: $185.
SUEELLEN ROSS - "Mixed Media Painting" - for all levels
Seattle artist, Sueellen Ross, is internationally recognized for her mixed-media paintings and hand-colored etchings. She is especially well known for her enchanting portraits of cats and dogs and is the author of a popular art instruction book entitled "Painting Radiant Realism- in watercolor, ink & colored pencil." Join one of the best animal painters in the world and learn to incorporate her famous mixed-media technique into your own work. Build a rich, full-color painting in stages, using graphite pencil, India ink, watercolor and colored pencil. You will be amazed at how you can add color, richness and depth to your own work, and your paintings will stand out from the crowd. Come enjoy this warm, generous, and wonderfully talented artist and learn from a true master! RAY VARLINSKY - "The Relationship Journey: Creating and Maintaining Relationships That Work"
This workshop will focus on the research, skills and approaches to creating relationships that are successful. Our presenter, Ray Varlinsky, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice. He incorporates years of clinical experience in relationship therapy, as well as greatly emphasizing the research and methods of Dr. John Gottman, and other nationally recognized relationship therapists. The goal of this workshop is to provide participants with pertinent information and usable skills for strenthening the friendship and problem solving in their relationships. It is intended for couples and individuals who want to live more authentically and lovingly with their partners while staying connected with themselves. Ray has presented workshops nationally and at the State level, and works with the renowned Gottman Institute in Seattle, Washington. He also holds long standing certification in biofeedback and neurofeedback. Ray's wife, Marianna Love, also a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, will assist in the workshop. Ray and Marianna have recently celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary. It is an honor to offer this workshop here at Lake Almanor, and we encourage you to take advantage of this great opportunity to enhance your personal happiness in all areas of your life!

NANCY COLLINS - "Autumn Leaves" - Watercolor technique
Nancy has found a new technique to create a fabulous painting with little effort. She will be teaching you a creative process using a masking agent and grape leaves. She is very excited to share her discoveries with you and says "It's fun, fast and very successful!" You will learn some great colors to use to create that autumn glow we all love to see. This artist has so much energy and enthusiasm, along with a wealth of information about color and the painting process, that you will definitely leave the workshop knowing much more than when you arrived. And you will have a great time in the process! Nancy comes to us from Mendocino where she is a favorite instructor at the Art Center there. (If you want to find her on the web, look under Mendocino Art Center and then her name....as googling brings up many other artists and authors named Nancy Collins).
October 7 & 8 (Saturday & Sunday) Time: 9-4 Cost: $145.
BILL PETERS & DEBBIE GROESSER - Pen & Ink and Watercolor This workshop incorporates the strength and detail of pen & ink with the magic and fluidity of watercolor to achieve a whole new look to your artwork. You will learn about perspective, values, linework, drawing skills, color, watercolor techniques for texture and mood in addition to trying out the effects using different papers and boards. Both artists offer many demos and with two instructors, you will receive much individual help. The weekend is filled with lots of laughter and learning. Both Bill and Deb have each been painting and teaching for many years and bring lots of experience to share. All levels of students are welcome. You will be drawing and painting things you never knew you could! A weekend not to be missed!
October 21 & 22 (Saturday & Sunday) Time: 9-4 Cost: $125. DEBBIE GROESSER - "Intermediate Watercolor....Nita Engle Style"
Back by popular demand, this workshop puts the 'water' in 'watercolor'! Loosen up your mind, arms, attitude and get ready to rumble! The paint and water will fly and the results can be amazing. Nita Engle, legendary artist, discovered and defined much of how watercolor is handled today. Her work and style are supreme. Debbie will share with you the excitement of this incredible artist and help you to discover a new found freedom with the magic of water and watercolor. And Nita's style is definitely magic - the astounding results are something you have to see to believe!
October 28 & 29 (Saturday & Sunday) Time: 9-4 Cost: $145.
BILL PETERS & DEBBIE GROESSER - "Drawing & Painting for Teachers"
This accredited class is designed for teachers who want to bring more art opportunities to their students. Many things will be taught that make great classroom art projects for kids of all ages. From drawing to watercolor, these two instructors will help you provide exciting and educational teaching experiences for your classrooms. You will learn how to help your students achieve successful results while they have a fun time with their self-expression.
